Q: When I play long sustaining notes or chords through my Black Box, they sometimes get cut off too early. Why is this and what can I do about it?
A: The Black Box has a feature called "Noise Gate" that is there to prevent feedback or noise from your guitar's pickups. The way this works is, that once the input signal from your guitar drops below a certain level, it gets turned off completely so unwanted noise or feedback doesn't get through to the Black Box's outputs.
You can lower the Noise Gate setting (lower Threshold) by pushing the "Tap Tempo" and the Drumbeat down-arrow together. This results in a longer sustain. The notes will get cut off later and at a lower level - more noise may make it through to the outputs. Repeatedly push Tap-Temp and Drumbeat-down together to step through Noise Gate Threshold levels from 9 to 0.

You can increase the Noise Gate settings (higher Threshold) by pushing the "Tap Tempo" and the Drumbeat up-arrow together. This results in a shorter sustain. The notes will get cut off earlier and at a higher level - less noise makes it through to the outputs. Repeatedly push Tap-Temp and Drumbeat-up together to step through Noise Gate Threshold levels from 0 to 9.
